The Waldner family is now the 12th generation of the family to run the Romantik Hotel Oberwirt in Marling. Senior manager Josef Franz Waldner has been the host here since 1973.
His daughter Barbara Waldner joined the family business in 2001. Both are always to be found in the main building, the Romantik Hotel Oberwirt.
The 4****S Romantik Hotel Oberwirt is the Waldner family’s main hotel. It was first mentioned in a document in 1496 – but the Oberwirt has been firmly in the hands of the Waldner family since 1749. Now in its 12th generation, the Waldner family are enthusiastic hosts.
In addition to the hotel business, the Romantik Hotel also has an à la carte restaurant that is known far beyond its borders. For almost 40 years, head chef Werner Seidner has characterised Oberwirt’s cuisine. His credo: “Simple but brilliant.” The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner every day during the hotel’s opening hours (except closing days). In the afternoon, however, there is a small afternoon menu and delicious homemade cakes.
In addition to the hotel business, the senior boss has also been passionate about farming for a long time. In 2008, “Sepp” Waldner completely rebuilt the now outdated farmstead in the Marling valley floor and created Ansitz Waldner, a farmstead for the Waldner family’s fruit and wine growing on the one hand, and a modern farm holiday with rooms and holiday flats on the other. During the opening hours of the 4**** S Romantik Hotel Oberwirt, guests at Ansitz Waldner benefit from the amenities and services of the main hotel (for an additional charge).
Guests spend the night at the farmhouse with a direct view of the orchards. Roses are also grown at Ansitz Waldner, which senior manager Sepp Waldner likes to give as gifts to “special” ladies 😊.
The Waldner family’s agriculture is complemented by the latest addition – the Eichenstein winery. Viticulture has played a major role in the Waldner family tradition for many centuries. Sepp Waldner took up this tradition at the turn of the millennium when he began to grow and cultivate wine himself again. This idea was rounded off with the modern winery in 2014. During the opening of the Romantik Hotel Oberwirt, guided wine tastings take place here every week, which you are welcome to attend (please book in advance at the hotel reception).
